I love pilates. I do it everyday. Our spacious and tranquil studio is centrally situated in Somerset West. At Pilates Somerset West people from all walks of life come to train together and all testify to the many benefits of regular pilates practise.
From our keen athletes to our moms-to-be, the injured to the elderly, training in a mat class or on the specially designed pilates equipment - all are enriched by learning greater body awareness, proper breathing, aligning the spine, improving tone, strength and flexibility.


What is Pilates? And Why Pilates?

Pilates is a system of movement and exercise that was developed in the 1920’s. Originated by Joseph Pilates, the goal of the system is to strengthen and stretch the muscles while integrating the mind and body.

Pilates exercise works the body from the inside out, beginning with deep structural muscles of the diaphragm, pelvis, lower back and buttocks, and then working up and out to the muscles of the chest, shoulders, upper back and extremities.

All movement in Pilates is focused on what Olympic trainers call the ”center”.

This is the point between the upper half and lower half of the body between the right and left side. Joseph Pilates referred to this as the “girdle of strength”.
